15 Romantic Things to Do in Cornwall for Couples

Written by Marwick

Whether you're celebrating an anniversary, away on a long weekend, or simply craving space to breathe together, Cornwall delivers romance in a way that feels truly effortless.

Here at Scarlet, our clifftop adults-only eco-hotel near Mawgan Porth, we've watched countless couples reconnect with each other. So we thought we'd share our favourite romantic experiences, both here at Scarlet and out across this extraordinary county.

1. Soak in a Clifftop Hot Tub at Scarlet

Nothing says we've arrived quite like sliding into a hot tub above the Atlantic with your partner beside you and a glass of something cold in hand. Our iconic clifftop hot tubs at Scarlet are dramatic and unforgettable with the sound of waves below and the Cornish sky above.

Book a spa journey for two and pair your soak with a couples' treatment in our holistic spa, where Ayurvedic-inspired therapies meet the restorative power of the sea.

2. Watch the sunset from Bedruthan Steps

Just along the coast from Scarlet, Bedruthan Steps is one of North Cornwall's most dramatic stretches of coastline. Walk the clifftop path as the sky turns amber and pink; find a spot to sit and simply watch. Bring a blanket and something bubbly. It's also an accredited Dark Sky Discovery Site, so if you stay past dusk, you'll be rewarded with a sky full of stars.

3. Slow Dinner at The Scarlet Restaurant

Dinner at our restaurant is a genuine occasion with ocean views from the table and a kitchen that works with sustainable, locally grown ingredients. Think fresh Cornish seafood, wild and foraged flavours and dishes that make you want to share everything on the plate. Take your time and let the evening go wherever it goes.

4. A Morning Swim in Our Natural Reed-Filtered Pool

There's something romantic about being the first ones in the water. Our natural reed pool sits within the spa grounds, surrounded by nature. Take a morning swim together before breakfast, then wrap up and watch the sea from the terrace. This is what slowing down feels like.

5. Wander the Cobbled Streets of Port Isaac

Made famous by Doc Martin, Port Isaac is one of Cornwall's most beautiful fishing villages. The streets are narrow, and the harbour is postcard-perfect. Wander without a plan, find a coffee and watch the boats. It's the kind of place that makes you want to buy a cottage and never leave.

6. Walk a section of the South West Coast Path

Cornwall offers 630 miles of coast path. Pick a section near Scarlet, lace up your boots, and spend a few hours walking the clifftops. The stretch around Mawgan Porth and Watergate Bay is particularly beautiful, with rarely a crowd outside of summer.

Pack a picnic and sit for longer than you planned.

7. Stargaze at Carnewas and Bedruthan Steps

Bedruthan Steps is one of the county's accredited Dark Sky Discovery Sites. On a clear night, the sky is lit up with stars. Spread a blanket on the coast path, wrap up warm and look up together. Few things reframe a relationship quite like realising how lucky you are to be here.

8. Discover a Secluded Cove

Cornwall has dozens of beaches that never appear on lists because you can only reach them on foot. Pedn Vounder near Penzance offers turquoise waters and dramatic cliffs. Kynance Cove on the Lizard Peninsula is another hidden gem. Time your visit for low tide and you'll have rock pools and hidden caves to explore together.

9. Afternoon Tea with an Atlantic View

There is a very specific pleasure in sitting somewhere beautiful, eating something delicious and having absolutely nowhere to be. Afternoon tea at Scarlet, or at one of Cornwall's many clifftop cafes, delivers that in abundance. Scones, clotted cream and the sound of the sea. Or upgrade to champagne!

10. Wine Tasting at Camel Valley Vineyard

Camel Valley is one of England's most celebrated vineyards, tucked into the River Camel valley near Bodmin. Their sparkling wines have won international awards, and their tours are wonderfully relaxed. It's a beautiful afternoon out that feels special without trying too hard. Pick up a bottle to enjoy back at Scarlet.

11. Take in a Performance at Minack Theatre

There are few experiences quite like watching a play at the Minack. This open-air theatre above Porthcurno offers a full programme of drama, musicals and comedy. Bring a cushion and a flask of something warm. Even if you can't catch a performance, the theatre itself is worth a visit for the views alone.

12. Hire a Boat on the Helford River

For something different, hire a small boat and spend an afternoon exploring the Helford River. The river was written about in Daphne du Maurier's Frenchman's Creek, and it’s quite the spot. Pack lunch and get happily lost.

13. A Couples' Spa Journey at The Scarlet

Our signature spa journeys are one of the most popular experiences among couples staying with us. A thoughtfully curated day of Ayurvedic-inspired treatments, designed to bring you both back to each other. Think warm oil massage, a long soak and the kind of deep rest that takes the stress away in a matter of hours.

There's also our coastal sauna, with views straight out to sea, the perfect place to decompress together before dinner.

14. Explore the Artistic Streets of St Ives

St Ives is a great day out for art lovers. Visit the Tate St Ives together or pick something up from one of the many independent galleries. There's a harbour-side table for fresh crab and a glass of Cornish white afterwards. It's one of those days that becomes a memory you'll cherish.

15. Wake Up to the Ocean at Scarlet

And finally, perhaps the most romantic experience of all is simply to be here. At Scarlet, you'll wake to morning light, step onto your terrace with a coffee and hear nothing but waves and wind. It’s Cornwall, just the two of you and an invitation to slow down. That's what a romantic break should feel like.
