Dog-Friendly Holidays in Cornwall: Beaches, Walks & Stays

Written by Emma Benney

A holiday to Cornwall is hard to beat if you’ve got a dog that’s part of the family; with miles of coastline and hundreds of beaches, it’s one of the most rewarding places in the UK to explore with a four-legged companion.

Whether you're looking for somewhere to walk or simply somewhere to rest after a big day out, here's everything you need to plan the perfect dog-friendly break.

Best Dog-Friendly Beaches Near Scarlet

Many of Cornwall's beaches welcome dogs all year round. A few favourites include:

Mawgan Porth

Right on the doorstep of Scarlet, Mawgan Porth is a wide, dog-friendly beach that’s open to pups all year round.

Perfect for early morning runs or sunset walks, with the South West Coast Path leading off in both directions for those wanting to stretch their legs a little further.

Holywell Bay

Holywell Bay is a strong favourite for dogs that love to dig and explore. The surrounding dunes offer sheltered spots away from the wind.

It's quieter than some of the more central beaches, making it a good choice if your dog isn't keen on crowds. There's a café nearby for a well-earned coffee and treat after your walk.

Perranporth

Perranporth offers nearly three miles of sand at low tide, giving dogs plenty of room to roam and burn off energy.

During peak summer months, dog access is typically restricted to certain sections of the beach, but outside of this period dogs are welcome to enjoy the full stretch.

Crantock Beach

Crantock is a highly rated beach for both dogs and their owners. It welcomes dogs year-round with vast dunes that are perfect for exploring.

This National Trust owned beach is one of the best dog-friendly beaches near Newquay.

Local Walks for You and Your Dog

Cornwall offers a vast selection of walking trails, from gentle beach ambles to full-day adventures; there's something for every dog.

Inland walks

If you fancy a change of scenery, inland Cornwall offers just as much for dogs to enjoy.

Bodmin Moor's wide open spaces and tors make for less crowded walks, with plenty of room for dogs to roam off-lead in suitable areas.

Wooded valleys such as those around Lanhydrock and the Camel Trail offer shaded, sheltered routes that are ideal on hot days or when you fancy a gentler walk.

Many of Cornwall's country gardens and estates, including spots like Trelissick and Glendurgan, also welcome well-behaved dogs on leads.

Closer to Scarlet, the Carnaton Woods walk near St Mawgan is a lovely option that often gets overlooked. It winds through ancient woodland away from the crowds in the Vale of Lanherne.

The South West Coast Path

The South West Coast Path runs right past Scarlet with access to a selection of clifftop views and coves along the way.

Pick a short loop for a leisurely morning, or set off for a longer walk and let your dog enjoy the sea air for hours.

Bedruthan Steps

Just along the coast, Bedruthan Steps is one of Cornwall's most photographed stretches of coastline.

The clifftop path here makes for a brilliant on-lead walk, with several viewpoints along the way and a National Trust café at the top for refreshments.

If you're choosing where to base yourself for a Cornwall break with your dog, here's what makes Scarlet stand out:

Dog-Friendly Rooms

A select number of rooms at Scarlet are set aside especially for guests travelling with dogs.

Each one comes with its own enclosed outdoor area, so your dog can step outside without wandering off, plus a dog bed, towel and food bowls prepared ahead of your arrival.

Scarlet welcomes small to medium dogs, with up to two dogs per stay. A small additional charge of £25 per night per dog applies.

Clifftop Setting Overlooking Mawgan Porth

Scarlet's location is hard to beat for dog owners, with a dog-friendly beach right on the doorstep and the South West Coast Path leading off in either direction for longer walks.

The easy access to walking routes makes it a setting that's as great for your dog as it is for you.

Relaxed Indoor Spaces

Dogs are welcome in the Reception Lounge and the Retreat Lounge, plus the outdoor terrace at the restaurant, so you're never left choosing between a meal out and time with your dog.

It's a small detail, but one that makes a real difference to how relaxed a stay feels for both of you.

Look Out for Seasonal Breaks

Scarlet's curated breaks change throughout the year, from longer spa breaks to festive getaways.

They can be a great way to combine a relaxing stay with a dog-friendly room. Just confirm dog availability with the team when booking.
