Dive Into Scarlet's Natural Reed Pool

Written by Meaghan Barron-Cutts

The Scarlet Reed Pool attracts many visitors, not just because of the stunning scenery that surrounds us or the sun trap that promises to sun-kiss your skin, but because it connects you to wild swimming within the comfort of luxury, all while supporting sustainability and making a positive impact on the environment. Swimming is no doubt great exercise and is a fantastic way to improve wellness and wellbeing, however nasty pool chemicals can cause irritation and dryness to our skin, eyes and hair. Ingesting chlorine-water can have some bad side effects for your insides too and it can negatively impact any wildlife that surrounds the pool - that's why we like to take more of a natural approach.

Our reed pool cleans itself and maintains a balanced and healthy environment for local birds, amphibians and roaming butterflies and dragonflies. The plant life and beneficial microorganisms act as natural filters and mimics a natural ecosystem to keep our pool clean and chemical-free. Beneficial bacteria settles in the roots of pond plants and other surfaces and breaks down organic matter. The plants that live in the pool then absorb nutrients that would otherwise feed algae, keeping the water crystal clear and safe to swim in. Natural reed pools are pest repellent too, the moving, aerated flow of the water keeps mosquitos at bay. So not only can you swim without fear of irritation or burning eyes, but you can lay on a sun lounger, soak up the sun and not worry about being bitten by pesky mosquitoes.

The water remains refreshingly cool, perfect for a revitalising dip on a warm summers day or in winter, an invigorating dunk that makes you feel alive. We're big fans of cold water swimming and all the health benefits that come along with it - it lowers stress, blood pressure and boosts your immune system as well as improving your overall health.

Top tips when using our reed pool:

  • Rinse off before entering the reed pool - suncream, perfumes, make up, oils and sprays can disrupt the precious balance of the reed pool and it may harm the wildlife and disrupt the pools precious eco system
  • Be sure to reapply your suncream after your dip to protect your skin from the sun
  • Respect the wildlife, please do not touch and leave any pond creatures be
  • Please ensure not to pull out any plants or flowers in or around the pool
  • Stick to the pool - please do not walk over the ponds shallow gardens
  • Although naturally filtered, the reed pool contains natural bacteria, be sure not to swallow the water and to rinse off afterwards, especially washing your hands (we ensure that it is completely safe, this is just a precaution)
