The grown-ups guide to alfresco drinking

Now that summer is upon us we’re looking forward to long, warm evenings sitting in the sunshine with cold, sparkling drinks in hand. Imagine sitting on our retreat terrace reclining in a comfy lounger overlooking the sea with the perfect G&T or glass of fizz…

If you can’t make it to the Scarlet this summer, here are our favourite drinks to enjoy alfresco which are easy to recreate at home.

Firstly, the perfect G&T…

Tarquin’s Gin & Tonic

Tarquin’s Gin is made by an independent, family company handcrafting Gin and Pastis in tiny batches (the old-fashioned way) by the coast of north Cornwall. A contemporary take on a classic London Dry, Tarquins use fragrant handpicked Devon violets and fresh orange zest to deliver an aromatic sensation unlike any other. The result is comparable to stumbling upon a beautiful orange blossom in the middle of a crisp, dry pine forest.

Fill a high ball glass to the top with ice. Add 35ml Tarquin’s Gin, a squeeze of lime and Fever Tree tonic water. Garnish with a twirl of orange peel a slice of lime and a lime juice rim.

Aperol Spritz

Prosecco, Aperol and a splash of soda for a light and zesty refreshment. The most popular aperitif in Italy! Served with lots of ice, it’s the perfect combination of bitter and sweet.

Perfect for an aperitif before an alfresco dinner, or simply on its own perhaps enjoyed with some nuts or olives, refreshing and tasty it’s our summer drink of choice!

Chateau Maris Rosé de Nymphe

Chateau Maris is run by a small, dedicated team of people passionate about making high quality wines in an environmentally friendly-way. They have built a carbon neutral hemp brick winery, the first of its kind in the world. This pale rosé is fresh with a nice minerality and notes of apricots and raspberry brambles. Pair with light seafood, salads or on its own in the Cornish sunshine.

Trevibban Sparkling Rosé

This sparkling pink comes from Trevibban Mill. An organically farmed, family run winery on the slopes of the Issey Brooke which eventually joins the Camel Estuary. Salmon pink with fresh red berry and cranberry notes. Fine bubbles and a crisp acidity that gives the wine a great balance and freshness.

Elegant and light but with some beautiful characteristics this is the perfect alfresco drink to enjoy for a celebration.
