Although fewer members than usual attended the meeting because of holidays and other commitments, the discussion about The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt was intense and lengthy!
Although one member did not enjoy the book feeling that it was overlong and that some of the characters were mere caricatures, her comments sparked lots of thoughts and ideas amongst those who did like it and it would seem that the resulting conversation enriched everyone’s experience of the book. All agreed this was not an easy read, and that it led you into situations and ideas that were challenging, but most were impressed with Tartt’s original use of language and the way she explored philosophical ideas.
The next meeting will be on Thursday 25 June, as usual, at 2pm in the library at Scarlet, when the book under discussion will be H is for Hawk by Helen Macdonald.
