Yvonne Coomber is a British contemporary artist based in South Devon. She has collections all over the world and her highly sought-after flowerscape paintings sing of tumbling hedgerows, tangled meadowlands, open moorland and magical forests. Yvonne’s artwork transports the viewer to an effervescent place of happiness.
Yvonne’s stunningly original paintings often include glitter, gold leaf and multiple layers of rainbow-strewn glazes and paint that come together to create a perfect harmony. This unique technique encourages her delicate yet sprightly florals to be catapulted up from the canvas in a kaleidoscopic confetti shower of joy.
We are delighted to collaborate with Yvonne Coomber on this art competition and hope you enjoy her guest blog post…
“Art is embedded deep at the heart of The Scarlet. The hotel structure itself was purposefully designed with plenty of bright, open spaces to display and celebrate south west artists. So when I first started thinking about how I could give something back to my wonderful community for all their support this year, the first place I thought I’d get in touch with to see if they would like to collaborate was of course, The Scarlet!
Cornwall has seduced many a visitor with its maverick, proudly independent spirit. Its rugged nature and seemingly endless array of natural beauty spots and culinary gems evoke a powerful magnetism. I have a deep love of Cornwall and the wild, natural landscape which is flaunted all across this beautiful county. From the honey-hued heather and native grazing ponies which dot the vast moorland, to the symphony of joy that is a sunset setting the sky on fire for as far as the eye can see… the enormous skies and carnival of colour found in Cornwall provides endless inspiration to me and I hungrily immerse myself in this joyous natural landscape whenever the opportunity takes me.
Artist Yvonne Coomber; the Inspiration Behind the Artwork
Each year my husband Mike and I are privileged to spend a weekend at the Scarlet Hotel. The hotel overlooks the ravishing cove at Mawgan Porth and this area provides much of my inspiration for seascape paintings. I first was requested to paint for The Scarlet Hotel nearly a decade ago, when it was first being dreamed. My work now hangs in the main reception area and I am honoured to have regularly have work showing both here and at its sister hotel the Bedruthan.
The ever-changing magical light, shifting weathers and tidal beauty make The Scarlet and this corner of North Cornwall endlessly fascinating, enchanting and deeply heart opening. This place simply makes me want to paint. In addition, the hotel has divine food, a wonderful spa and attentive staff; the entire place is saturated in peacefulness and beauty. It is nourishing on so many levels and we always feel recharged and rejuvenated after a stay.
