Foodie date ideas

By September 15, 2015FOOD & DRINK, ROMANCE

A dinner date is the classic romantic date. We believe that’s because the best part of the day is when delicious food and drink is involved. The anticipation throughout the day of a meal out with your loved one, the sky darkening outside as you get dressed up and the chance to really treat each other to something a little bit special.

But why wait until dinner time for a foodie-themed date? Do something a little different and spend some time with your other half devouring some tasty morsels at various times of day. Here are some of our enticing ideas to get you started…

Breakfast date

Rather than waiting for the evening, start your romantic rendezvous in the early morning. Gather some delicious breakfast essentials: a freshly baked loaf of sourdough, flakey pastries, pots of raspberry jam and salted butter. Maybe even a little champagne, and indulge – just stay in bed, or lay out a blanket in the garden.

Desserts

Indulge in a decadent dessert together. After a heavy meal there’s often no room for dessert, so instead find an ice cream parlour, or your favourite restaurant and just order the most indulgent sweet on the menu. Ask for two spoons and take your time to savour it.

Chocolate tasting

Collect together some different pieces of chocolate: caramel truffles, slabs of dark and milk, chocolate covered strawberries, maybe make yourself a little fondue. See if you can find some local producers such as the delicious Chocolarder. Then curl up in front of the fire and nibble away. Lovely with some shots of brandy and some frozen grapes to refresh your palate.

Baking

On a rainy afternoon cosy up in the kitchen by a warm oven and try baking a new recipe you’ve never tried before. Whip up a batch of pancakes, or some sweet and spicy Cornish fairings, or how about a delicious brioche loaf?

Wine tasting

If food isn’t your thing, try a wine tasting. We’re lucky enough in Cornwall to be close to some local wine producers which offer wine tastings: you can take a tour of Camel Valley, a tasting at Knightor, or a grand walking tour of Trevibban Mill. But otherwise many restaurants or wine shops offer wine tasting. We are very proud of our wine list here at Scarlet, so just ask us for some more information when you visit.

Sunset suppers

For the ultimate indulgence, treat your loved one to an evening of dining while the sunsets over the ocean. There is nowhere better (in our opinion) than our Scarlet restaurant. Dinner here is always a special occasion, but we’re also currently offering romantic Sunset Suppers and a Sundown Spa and Dine which combines relaxing spa treatments before dinner and even includes your taxi home.
