Real Wine Month – April


This April is Real Wine Month- a national celebration of organic, biodynamic and natural wines made by artisan growers and winemakers, being celebrated across the country by various restaurants and independent retailers. Real Wine makers aim for the purest articulation of terroir, fruit or vintage in the wine. And you can taste the difference for yourself when you visit the Scarlet Restaurant.

Whether you’re new to the Real Wine scene, or already an enthusiast, we have something for everyone, and you’ll be able to get a feel for the variety of Real Wines available. Throughout April we are offering a number of natural, organic and biodynamic wines by the glass for your to try. There will also be Real Wine pairings available at dinner in the Scarlet Restaurant – we have chosen a Real Wine to complement each dish.


We’ve also launched a Natural Wine Flight: a naturally sparkling aperitif, along with three different glasses for each course:

14. Vouvray ‘La Dilettante’, Domaine Breton (Loire, France)
This naturally sparkling Chenin by Domaine Catherine & Pierre Breton is all pale fruit
and blossom.  A lovely aperitif.  OC, BB, V

66. Chateau Tour des Gendres ‘Cuvée des Conti’ (Bergerac Sec, France) 2012/13
Luc de Conti is a true vinarchiste, always looking for purity, intensity and the maximum expression of grapes.
This Sauvignon Blanc-dominated triumph, spends eight months on the lees and a month in barriques for the Semillon. Imagine waxy peaches, cream and sweet cashews. OC, V

133. ‘Nero di Lupo’ Nero d’Avola, COS (Sicily, Italy) 2011/12
Unfiltered 100% Nero d’Avola. Vinification at COS has recently moved away from barrels and stainless steel to cement vats. This wine is aged for 18-24 months before being released. Red wine with remarkable finesse and rich fruit flavours balanced by flinty notes. No chemicals are used in the vineyards and only natural yeasts are used in the fermentation. OP, BB, V

22. Jurancon Moelleux ‘La Magendia de Lapeyre’ 2010/11, Clos Lapeyre – 375ml
Exotic nuances of exotic fruits (pineapple, mango and passion fruit).  Powerful, yet controlled toast and vanilla flavours, with a hint of additional wood spice. OC, BB, V
