Sometimes, the hardest people to buy presents for are those closest to you. If you are in a bit of a Christmas gifting conundrum this year, we have some Scarlet-style gift suggestions for you, all bound to put a great big smile on the face of the one who has made your year.
As the seasons change, so do the fauna and flora around us. We will be able to enjoy the beautiful shades of yellow, red or orange that greet us as we enjoy the wonders and benefits of the outdoors. Here are some of our gardeners, Luke and Rosie, favourite autumnal plants in our Scarlet gardens:
We’re big fans of journaling, keeping a diary, unpacking your day on the page, whatever you’d like to call it. Writing is well-known as a therapeutic way of letting go and harmonising one’s self and beautiful journals, fabulous pens, a cosy chair and a scented candle make it a ritual worth your time. As far as self-care goes, spending a couple of minutes each day and looking forward has some surprising benefits…
In Ayurveda, an ancient holistic health system, autumn is the season of the vata dosha – the subtle energy that governs movement. Literally translates as ‘wind,’ vata is dry and cold, moving in bursts.
When vata rises in autumn it can leave you feeling worn out, brittle, and susceptible to illness. If you’re experiencing dry skin, bad circulation, restless or fitful sleep, erratic routines, eating habits and bowel movements, constipation, or erratic thinking and a tendency to feel anxious, you may have excess vata.
At this time of year, we truly believe there is no more romantic a place to be than Cornwall. With its stunning natural scenery, huge skies, dramatic sunsets, miles of empty sandy beaches and fresh air straight off the Atlantic, the result is a luxuriously unique combination of relaxation, space, peace and calm.
In order to help you make the most of what this beautiful part of the country has to offer, we thought we’d suggest a few things to see and do while you’re here.
As the last of the summer sun sets over the ocean, and shadows stretch out across Mawgan Porth beach. Our uniquely chic glass-fronted restaurant and terrace are as inspiring as it is welcoming, providing the perfect backdrop for you to take your time over a delicious afternoon tea, and not just any tea, one that’s made especially for you.
Summer is here and that means it’s alfresco dining time when you can take a picnic to the park, hold a BBQ on the beach, lunch at your leisure in a pub garden, or tuck into tapas on a sunny terrace with a measure of meteorological impunity.
At the Scarlet restaurant, our sea-view balcony is the perfect place for a spot of alfresco dining when you’re staying with us, but there’s also a host of amazing Cornish establishments that we love visiting for an evening of fresh air feasting. Read More

Cornwall may be known for its tranquil sandy coves, Ann’s famous pasties and the striking hero, Ross Poldark. However, there is no forgetting that Cornwall is a county steeped in art history, with artists such as Barbara Hepworth, Terry Frost, Ben Nicholson and Laura Knight all taking inspiration from Cornwall’s rugged landscape. This May, CAST (Cornubian Arts & Science Trust), based in Helston, is set to add to Cornwall’s creative oeuvre as they launch Groundwork, a season of international contemporary art across South West Cornwall.
