As you sit and savour a zippy glass of Annie’s Anniversary Brut, you may find yourself wondering, who is Annie? And what special occasion does her anniversary cuvée commemorate? Well, the Annie in question is Annie Lindo, co-founder, with her husband Bob, of Cornwall’s much-cherished Camel Valley vineyard.
A dinner date is the classic romantic date. We believe that’s because the best part of the day is when delicious food and drink is involved. The anticipation throughout the day of a meal out with your loved one, the sky darkening outside as you get dressed up and the chance to really treat each other to something a little bit special.
Each Spring and Autumn our head chef, Tom Hunter, creates a very special five-course tasting menu showcasing the best of local, Cornish Autumn produce: freshly landed seafood, seasonal fruits and vegetables and locally reared meats. Each course has been paired with a selection of exceptional wines from small artisan producers.
Late summer and early Autumn is a beautiful time to experience Cornwall. The school holiday crowds have dispersed leaving all of our favourite places free to explore. The sea is at its warmest, perfect for an afternoon dip in the late summer sunshine. Early evening sunsets make the perfect backdrop for a romantic dinner or a post-dinner stroll.
One of our favourite summer soups, served chilled it really is a showstopper. We use horseradish crème fraiche to add richness and give it a real lift and tiny dice of fresh apples and cucumbers to finish it perfectly. In the restaurant we sometimes serve it with a mini pulled pork sandwich as well which our guests really love.
