The Cornish Coast is also hugely fashionable with Brits, and their chosen escape is The Scarlet. This luxury eco-hotel with spa is located on an isolated clifftop overlo0king the sea; children aren’t allowed, ensuring a peaceful, grown-up ambiance.

Our room had big, sliding balcony doors at the foot of the bed, from which we could walk out onto a lawn on the cliff, and straight down to the sea. This was one of the best hotel rooms I’ve stayed in

Tell people you’re spending a few days at a hotel in Cornwall and the likely response is, “The Scarlet?” Considering the press I’ve seen on it, it’s hard not to imagine it is the only hotel in Cornwall.

Ever since we read about Cornwall's top spa, The Scarlet, we've rather fancied taking the train to Cornwall for a gloriously decadent eco-break.

You come to feel healthy and refreshed, to do as little or as much as you want, to relax and unwind. And failing all that, you come to take a friendly whippet for a walk on the beach.

The Scarlet is an ultra modern comfort-driven hotel, nestled away in Mawgan Porth, one of Cornwall’s tiniest villages. Its objective is to unwind its guests through comfort, privacy and above all else, luxurious surroundings. I’m happy to say that The Scarlet does this, and it does it well.

Much to the relief of my stressed out London self, this is a hotel that takes relaxation very seriously. As soon as we were shown to our room I skipped about, admiring the walk-in shower, huge bath, gorgeous bed and luxury toiletries.

"While many eco-hotels aren't as green as they seem, or lack style and comfort, The Scarlet is honest, luxurious and rather beautiful. Overlooking sandy Mawgan Porth, the hotel has an idyllic setting close to a wealth of marine life down on the beach. The hotel even offers Bee Keeping Breaks, where guests combine a stay with a course on how to keep bees and make honey from hives."

What did I love about The Scarlet? The rugged Cornish setting. The hanging relaxation pods. The commitment to being eco in every way throughout the hotel and spa without compromising on luxury. And of course, the outdoor heated hot tubs. A log-fired hot tub on the edge of a Cornish cliff, looking out to sea. I'm not sure I could think of a better place to relax.
